Glencore is one of Australia’s largest producers of coal for export, with 16 operational mines across New South Wales and Queensland.

We operate a mixture of open cut and underground coal mines and in 2022 managed the production of about 95 million tonnes of saleable thermal and coking coal.

Coal is one of the world’s most reliable, abundant and affordable sources of energy and is also used in the production of steel and cement.

Glencore’s coal business in Australia has a good track record of successful investment, project development, operational management and socio economic contribution across Australia.

New South Wales

We are a major producer of thermal coal, semi-soft and coking coal from 11 mines in the Hunter Valley and the Mid-Western region. Our coal is exported from the Port of Newcastle.

We produce thermal coal, semi-soft and coking coal from five mines in the Bowen Basin, which is exported from the Abbot Point, Dalrymple Bay, RG Tanna and Wiggins Island coal export terminals.

Past operations

We are committed to the goal of sustainable development. We continue to maintain and restore our sites long after mining is completed.
