Our Glencore Coal Australia First Nations Pathways Program, formally known as the Indigenous Employment Pathways Program, will enable participants to develop their job–readiness skills, gain experience and expand their knowledge with new challenges towards opportunities in the mining industry.
Program goals and locations
The program is held once a year and involves onsite, offsite and classroom training with the support of Indigenous mentors, health and wellbeing coaching, and career guidance.
Candidates must live in or have connection to the areas where we operate mines in the Bowen Basin in Queensland and in the Upper Hunter Valley in New South Wales. Traditional Owners from within those areas are encouraged to apply.
Successful applicants will:
- be employed through WorkPac for 26 weeks.
- learn about different job roles in the mining industry to develop career goals.
- achieve a Certificate II Surface Extraction Operations; Standard 11 (Queensland only); Civil Machinery tickets; and more.
2025 Program
Applications for the 2025 Program will open in January with the program to commence in May.
Eligibility criteria
To be eligible for the program, applicants must:
- be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Australians who live in or have connection to the areas where Glencore Coal Australia operates (Bowen Basin in Queensland, and in the Upper Hunter Valley in New South Wales)
- be working part-time, or unemployed and actively seeking full time employment
- hold a current driver’s license
- be able to provide their own transport to and from training locations and work sites
- be able to meet Coal Board Medical requirements.
Applications
Applications for both the New South Wales and Queensland programs open on Friday 5 January 2024 and close on Thursday 29 February 2024.
