Mount Isa Mines Analytical Laboratory celebrates outstanding safety milestone
The Mount Isa Mines Analytical Laboratory has reached an outstanding safety milestone, achieving 1,171 days without a workplace injury as of February 2025. To mark the achievement, the laboratory team was presented with employee cooler bags as a token of appreciation.
This achievement adds to a history of excellence at the laboratory. In 2023, the team received the highest possible performance ranking from the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) for lead in blood proficiency testing.
Back in 2020, the laboratory achieved a zero Z-Score in an industry-wide proficiency benchmarking test, placing it in the top percentile of Australian medical testing laboratories for accuracy and test quality.
For over 50 years, the laboratory has been instrumental in the community's lead awareness program and has demonstrated the company's commitment to providing a safe working environment for its employees.

Thia Sher, Manager Technical Services and Planning said the exceptional safety performance is testament to the team’s ability to keep safety front of mind and remembering what is most important to us and the reasons we stay safe each day.
“Everyone has a responsibility and is empowered to address safety issues in the workplace, from senior leaders supporting initiatives to employees challenging unsafe behaviour,” says Thia.
“Injuries are preventable, and we must aim for zero harm across our business and make it our highest priority.”
“We encourage our workforce to be innovative, looking for ways to improve conditions, operating practices and eliminate hazards to make every aspect of their job as safe as possible.”
