Glencore celebrates NAIDOC Week 2025

In 2025, NAIDOC Week marked a powerful milestone: 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture and resilience. The 2025 theme, “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy,” recognised the achievements of the past while celebrating the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of young Indigenous leaders, the vision of their communities, and the legacy of their ancestors.

Glencore proudly joined communities across Australia in celebrating NAIDOC Week 2025, a significant occasion to recognise and honour the history, culture, and achievements of First Nations peoples. Across the Mount Isa operations, we marked the week with site BBQs and team gatherings, providing an opportunity for employees to come together, reflect and acknowledge the importance of NAIDOC.

Once again, Glencore also participated in the annual Mob FM Family Fun Day, supporting the community and celebrating culture with local families. This event provided a relaxed, engaging environment to connect, enjoy activities and highlight the contributions of First Nations peoples across the region.

The 2025 theme emphasised the role of the next generation in shaping the future, building on the resilience, knowledge and cultural legacy passed down through generations. By celebrating this theme, Glencore encouraged all employees to appreciate and respect the richness and diversity of First Nations culture while acknowledging the leaders of tomorrow.

Clynton Munns, Indigenous Employment Coordinator at Glencore Mount Isa Mines, said:

“NAIDOC Week was an important time to reflect on the history, resilience, and contributions of First Nations peoples. Even simple gatherings, like our site BBQs, allowed us to pause, acknowledge and celebrate culture together as a team. This year’s theme reminded us to celebrate not only our past and present but also the next generation of leaders shaping our communities and workplaces for the future.”

The 2025 celebrations reinforced Glencore’s ongoing commitment to First Nations engagement, respect and inclusion. We continue to foster opportunities for learning and connection in the workplace, helping ensure that Indigenous culture is celebrated and valued year-round.

  • Supporting Indigenous Employment

Glencore recognises that people are fundamental to our success, and a diverse workforce is essential for sustainable business growth. We are continue to invest in training, development and career pathways to help everyone reach their potential.

Glencore’s Indigenous Employment Program offers Indigenous Australians a two-stage path to full-time work at Mount Isa Mines:

    • Work Ready Course (12 weeks): open to all participants.

Participants receive ongoing support, including mentorship from fellow Indigenous employees. Upon completion, they may have the opportunity to progress into full-time employment with Glencore or a contracting partner.

Opportunities are advertised in local communities and through Glencore’s partner employment agencies.

Through these initiatives and NAIDOC Week celebrations, Glencore demonstrates that every site, every team and every employee play a role in recognising the significance of First Nations culture, while supporting the next generation to carry forward a legacy of strength, vision, and opportunity.
