Mount Isa Mines Charity Music Festival raises $16,450 for Mount Isa Cancer House
Mount Isa Mines continued the celebrations of its centennial year with the Charity Music Festival held on Saturday 19 October. Drawing over 2,000 attendees to Buchanan Park’s iconic red dirt arena, the festival featured a diverse lineup of local and national artists, family-friendly activities, and community engagement that truly embodied the spirit of Mount Isa.
This milestone year is more than a celebration of Mount Isa Mines’ rich legacy; it is an opportunity to recognise the community that has supported us over the past century. Our journey would not have been possible without the hard work, loyalty, and resilience of the people of Mount Isa, and this year’s events serve as a token of our appreciation for their enduring support.
“Our 100th anniversary is a reflection of our enduring partnership with Mount Isa. This concert is a chance to give back in a meaningful way to the town and the people who have been the backbone of our success,” says Sam Strohmayr, Chief Operating Officer, Glencore Zinc Australia.
“We believe that a strong community is the foundation of a strong company, and we’re excited to celebrate this legacy by giving back”, he said.
October was Cancer Awareness Month, a global initiative to promote education, support, and early detection. Aligned with this, the Mount Isa Mines Charity Music Festival raised funds for the much-loved Mount Isa Cancer House. This essential organisation provides vital support services for patients and their families.
Thanks to the support of the community, the event raised an impressive $16,450, all of which will support Mount Isa Cancer House.
The evening was a lively celebration, with performances from talented artists such as Luke Geiger, Josie, Ben Penna, Big Red Entertainment, and We Love Vinyl, along with special appearances from Mount Isa’s own musicians. Attendees enjoyed Paint and Sip sessions, line dancing, and a variety of market stalls, creating a vibrant atmosphere filled with community spirit and gratitude.
Paul Wragg, President of Mount Isa Cancer House, expressed deep gratitude for Glencore Mount Isa Mines’ contribution; “We greatly appreciate the funds from Glencore Mount Isa Mines, which will allow us to expand our support for people in need through essential research, awareness, and promotions. This donation allows us to make an even greater impact in the lives of those facing cancer.”
Paul encourages community involvement, emphasising that “there are many ways people can help. Contact any of our committee members – we’re more than happy to chat about how you can contribute.”
Mount Isa Cancer House is also actively looking for new committee members to join in supporting their ongoing efforts to assist those in need.
A sincere thank you goes out to everyone who attended the Charity Music Festival and contributed to making our 100-year celebrations truly memorable. It’s your ongoing support that keeps this community strong, vibrant, and ready for another century of milestones.
As Mount Isa Mines reflects on a century of commitment to the community, the spirit of giving remains stronger than ever. On Saturday 14 December, Mount Isa Mines will host Christmas Under the Stars from 6-9pm. This festive evening promises another fantastic opportunity for the community to come together.
