Helping deliver essential food support to our community
Each year through Glencore’s Corporate Social Investment Fund (CSIF) we partner with community organisations to support projects and initiatives that deliver benefits directly to our local communities.
In 2025, Foodbank Queensland opened a new distribution centre in Townsville, increasing the number of outlets across Queensland to three.
With one in five Queensland households – around 480,000 – experiencing hunger each year, we welcomed the opportunity to contribute to the local Food for Kids Program.
Nick, Bianca, Stuart, Jessica, James and Kim enjoyed spending the morning on the production line doing their bit for charity.
Townsville Copper Refineries committed $14,000 to support the program in Townsville, providing 560 hampers filled with essential pantry items for children and families to take home at the end of the school term.
Carolyn Gibbs, Foodbank Queensland Partnerships and Grants Manager says she’s grateful for the support Glencore’s Copper Refinery has been able to provide to help ease food insecurity in Townsville.
“Our team at the Townsville Distribution Centre was excited to have volunteers from the copper refinery join them in late March,” says Carolyn.
“We appreciate every extra pair of hands we can get to help get food out the door to where it’s needed the most.”
Seven copper refinery employees volunteered their time to help pack hampers at the Townsville facility. With food insecurity on the rise, Glencore was honoured to play a small part alongside the amazing Foodbank crew to help make a difference on the ground in the Townsville region.

Great effort! Our copper refinery volunteers packed 200 hampers over three hours.
Paul Taylor, Manager, Copper Refinery and Port Operations, says while financial support is important, being actively involved allows us to see first-hand where our contributions are making a difference.
“Knowing the hampers will benefit local kids and their families at the end of school term gave our employees a genuine incentive to get involved.”
“We hope our contribution to the Food for Kids Program Townsville helps ease the pressure for families during these challenging times,” says Paul.
Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation. Each week Foodbank Queensland supports 135,000 people in crisis and provides breakfast to 52,000 school-aged children.
