Queensland Metals 2022 Apprenticeship Program opening soon
Adults of all ages are being urged to consider a career in a trade, with applications opening soon for Queensland Metals’ 2022 Apprenticeship Program.
Queensland Metals proudly employs 186 apprentices across our North Queensland operations and is looking for new recruits. The program supports a variety of trade disciplines including electrical, diesel fitting, boiler making, fitting/welding, auto-electrical, motor mechanic and radio technician roles.
Queensland Metals Human Resources Group Manager, Clint Milner, says the comprehensive four-year program provides our apprentices with the skills to build a successful career in their chosen trade.
“Apprentices have the opportunity to rotate across different areas of the business from mining to processing and smelting, allowing them to gain broader exposure to our operations and advance their knowledge and skills,” says Clint.

The Queensland Metals Apprenticeship Program combines continuous training courses at TAFE North Queensland, with onsite experience in the apprentices’ relevant operational teams.

Mount Isa resident and fourth-year Diesel Fitter Apprentice, Robbie Pittis, says the opportunities that are available with a Queensland Metals apprenticeship are endless.
“My father completed his apprenticeship with Queensland Metals 40 years ago, and now I am able to follow in his footsteps,” says Robbie.

“With this being the last year of my apprenticeship, I am looking forward to securing a permanent Diesel Fitter trade position so that I can continue to advance my career with Queensland Metals.”

“I am constantly meeting new and experienced professionals and being exposed to different areas of the operations on a regular basis,” says Tina.

People are welcome to join us for an information session on the 2022 Queensland Metals Apprenticeship Program intake at 7pm on Wednesday 30 June 2021 at the John MIddlin Centre in Mount Isa.
Applications for Queensland Metals 2022 Apprenticeship Program will open on 5 July 2021 and close on 8 August 2021.
