Mount Isa Golf Club emergency response exercise
In partnership with the Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG), Mount Isa Mines (MIM) conducted an emergency response exercise at the Mount Isa Golf Club (MIGC) to test our emergency management protocols for our tailings storage facility.
As a responsible operator committed to global industry standards, MIM regularly engages with key community representatives regarding our tailings storage facilities and water dams. In the unlikely event of an incident, MIGC has been identified as a potentially impacted stakeholder.
The emergency response exercise took place at MIGC in December 2024 as part of our commitment to regularly testing our emergency preparedness and response plans, ensuring continuous improvement.

As part of the exercise, an early warning siren was activated to assess the evacuation process for MIGC patrons.
The early warning siren is part of a state-of-the-art Mass Notification Warning System, featuring a siren and speaker enclosed on a 15-metre stainless steel pole to deliver clear, powerful voice communications.
Supporting equipment includes a radio antenna for communication with MIM’s SCADA system, enabling remote operation, as well as lightning protection and solar panels.
The system is designed to cover a 1,000-metre radius, delivering 70 dBC at a 15-metre elevation. At ground level, the siren reaches a maximum sound level of 92 dB for bystanders.

Installation of the Emalte early warning system was completed by Auzscot Constructions for the civil works and cranage and installation of the pole and siren system by Linmar cranes.
Mitch Green, Superintendent - Environment, emphasised the importance of including MIGC in MIM’s emergency preparedness and response plans due to its close proximity to operations.
“We have developed emergency preparedness and response plans for our Tailings Storage Facilities and ensure these are shared with key stakeholders, including the LDMG and MIGC,” Mitch explained.
“I’d like to thank the patrons of MIGC for their cooperation during this exercise, as we work to enhance the safety and preparedness of our community,” he added.
