‘Fan-tache-tic’ fundraising efforts by employees across Queensland Metals

Last month groups and individuals from across our Queensland Metals business came together to focus on men’s health.

‘Mo Bros’ across Queensland Metals shunned their razors and sprouted moustaches for Movember to raise funds and awareness for some of the biggest health issues faced by men today.

‘Movers’ also supported the cause by committing to walk 60 kilometres during the month to help raise vital funds.

The annual November Movember event focuses on producing better health outcomes for men particularly across the areas of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

For ‘Mo Brothers’ the task to create a respectable moustache and not something patchy was the biggest challenge, while for others it was overcoming the urge to shave off the itchy, irritating growth before time. But all agree it was worth it for the end result.

The physical efforts of our ‘Mo Sisters’ were equally commendable − pounding the pavement for at least 60 kilometres over the month of Movember is no mean feat.

A special mention goes to the Queensland Metals Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) team collectively raised $5,365 − easily surpassing the amount raised last year of $2,511. The highest fundraiser in the team was Colin Morrison, Communications and Engagement Advisor, who individually raised almost $1500 for the charity.

Queensland Metals Manager − Health, Safety and Environment Strategy, Regulation and Assurance, Jason Jones, says the HSEC team took great pride in supporting Movember.

“We had around 17 people come on board to help support this worthy cause,” says Jason.

“It was really great to see the whole team come together and organise a barbeque breakfast fundraiser at Central Office.”

“It’s fair to say some of the team were sporting some really dodgy mo’s,” Jason smiles.

From humble beginnings in Australia in 2003, the Movember movement has grown to be truly global and has inspired support from over six million Mo Bros and Mo Sisters around the world to help change the face of men’s health.

Movember now takes place in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Hong Kong, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and USA.
