Communities unite to share in the spirit of Christmas

Christmas is a special time of year and it’s great to see families and friends within the community come together to share in the festive spirit.

For many years Glencore’s Queensland Metals has supported the Cloncurry and Mount Isa local councils to welcome in the festive season and sprinkle a little Christmas cheer into our outback oasis.

In November, the Cloncurry community was brought together for the annual Cloncurry Christmas Festival held in the recently redeveloped Florence Clark Park. The festival catered for all families with a range of activities including a BBQ, entertainment from the Cloncurry Carollers and a visit from Santa.

Mount Isa City Council’s annual Christmas Carols held at Buchanan Park was complemented by a medley of Christmas markets offering a wide range of gift ideas for everyone. A variety of food stalls catered to the crowd providing tasty treats while relaxing and revelling in the line-up of family friendly entertainment.

The highly contagious Crackup Sisters brought smiles to faces while the spectacular vocals of David Kidd and some of our very own local talent had children of all ages dancing and singing to our favourite Christmas tunes.

General Manager − Health, Safety, Environment and Community, Maryann Wipaki says Queensland Metals values the importance of building community vibrancy and increasing the liveability of our city.

“These events contribute greatly to the wellbeing of our communities by giving everyone the opportunity to celebrate and enjoy time together.”

“Hopefully these events have brought some relief to what has been a difficult year for many people,” says Maryann.

“As we reflect on 2020, it’s important we recognise the hard work and dedication of our employees across Queensland Metals, especially in light of increased health and safety measures that were implemented to manage the risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“Although we’ve needed to adapt to a ‘new normal’ of working, we’re proud of the way our people got on with the job so we could continue operating through these challenging times,” Maryann says.

To all of our employees and their families, warm wishes for a happy and safe festive season and a healthy and prosperous New Year.
