We are deeply saddened to confirm that one worker has died, and a second worker was airlifted to hospital for treatment, following an incident at our Oaky Creek Coal operation in central Queensland yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred when the two workers were carrying out maintenance works.

“Our deepest sympathies go out to both workers’ families, friends and colleagues. This is devastating for our entire Oaky Creek workforce, and we are providing support services and counselling”, said Ian Cribb, CEO of Glencore’s coal business in Australia.

The relevant Queensland authorities have been notified and operations at the mine have been suspended.
