Glencore’s Mangoola Open Cut has partnered with ManUp! Australia and the Mark Hughes Foundation to launch two custom-designed haul truck trays carrying a vital health message.

These powerful tray designs spotlight the importance of early detection and awareness, transforming the massive machinery into moving reminders that encourage workers to prioritise health and start conversations that matter.

“We want men to take charge of their health and be armed with knowledge, because that’s what saves lives,” said ManUp! founder Jill Costello, who started the charity after her husband’s battle with prostate cancer.

“If people go long periods of time without a reminder, they may forget. But, if they're given that regular hint, like seeing the truck every day, they’re more likely to act.”

Jill and the Man Up! team have partnered with Mangoola Open Cut for years, delivering educational presentations and prompting life-saving conversations.

A second haul truck tray features the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF), and spreads an important message about brain cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer death in children and among the deadliest in adults aged 25–45.

“It’s fantastic to see Mangoola Open Cut getting behind the Beanies for Brain Cancer campaign in such a bold and visible way,” said MHF’s Finance & Operations Manager, Sharyn Rogers.

Founded by former Newcastle Knights player Mark Hughes after his own diagnosis, MHF supports brain cancer patients, backs research, and helps raise national awareness.

Mangoola Open Cut Maintenance Manager, Luke Vaughan, said the truck project was driven by the workforce.

“We’ve had the team from Man Up! deliver presentations on site for years now, which has been a critical reminder to our team,” Luke said.

“This year, we also added the Mark Hughes Foundation to our tray campaign, as brain cancer is another disease that has deeply affected members of our workforce and community.”

“These tray designs are about making these messages visible every day, encouraging our team, and our families, to get checked and to speak up.”

In addition to the tray campaign, Mangoola Open Cut donated $5,000 each to ManUp! and the Mark Hughes Foundation, to support their ongoing education and research efforts.

“We want to keep both charities on the road and in the labs,” Luke said.

“Because every conversation, every check-up, and every dollar counts.”
