Mangoola Coal Continued Operations Project

On 26 April 2021, the New South Wales Independent Planning Commission (IPC) approved with conditions the Development Application for the Mangoola Coal Continued Operations (MCCO) Project under Part 4 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

The State Significant Development (SSD) 8642 approval provides for the continuation of open cut mining immediately north of our existing mine at Mangoola Coal Operations. This will enable Glencore to extract a further 52 million tonnes of coal through to the end of 2030.

Key elements and commencement

With all required approvals in place, the MCCO Project has commenced construction and will consist of the following key elements:

  • site access establishment off Wybong Road
  • construction of the temporary Wybong Road bypass
  • construction of a haul road overpass over Wybong Road to connect existing operations to the northern mining area
  • construction of water management infrastructure including dams, sediment drains and clean water diversion drains
  • other construction elements including visual bunds, power and services relocations, and erosion and sediment control works.

Mining within the MCCO Project area is expected to commence in 2023.
