Glencore Port Operations is part of Glencore’s Australian metals business and is the export gateway for the metals and minerals we produce and process in Queensland.
Located in Townsville we also handle products from third party producers, including copper and zinc concentrates as well as fertiliser products.
Mineral concentrates and fertiliser products are exported through the Berth 8 shiploader. Lead bullion from our lead smelter at Mount Isa Mines and copper cathode from our Copper Refinery Pty Ltd are exported through Berth 3, with loading services provided by Northern Stevedoring Services.
Through the Port of Townsville, products handled by Glencore Port Operations are shipped to customers across Asia, Europe and North America, as well as throughout Australia.

Our history
We are the Port of Townsville’s oldest and largest customer with operations dating back to the founding of Glencore Mount Isa Mines over 100 years ago.
For decades, products from Mount Isa Mines and Copper Refineries Pty Ltd were exported through Berth 7, which served the Port of Townsville from 1913.
In 2015, our purpose-built Berth 8 facility was commissioned, securing the long-term export capacity for Glencore and third-party customers for mineral concentrates and fertiliser products from across Queensland’s north-west region.
Jointly funded by the Port of Townsville, Glencore and Incitec Pivot, the $85 million Berth 8 upgrade delivered two-and-a-half times more shiploading capacity, greater berth efficiency and significant improvements in our environmental performance.
We aim to achieve and maintain the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance and support the Townsville community.
