Support services set to benefit from $11,000
Media statement
Singleton Family Support (SFS) and Beyond Blue are set to benefit from a share of $11,000 this Christmas, thanks to a donation from Hunter Valley Operations (HVO).
More than 100 employees from the Glencore and Yancoal Joint Venture donated a total of $5,500 to support the vital services.
HVO matched its employees’ generosity, with Family Support receiving $4,600 and Beyond Blue receiving $6,400.
“We recognise what a difficult year 2020 has been for a lot of people and we’re conscious of how fortunate we have been to maintain operations and employment during such a challenging time,” Operations Manager, Tony Morris, said.
“Our employees at Hunter Valley Operations felt it was important to give back this Christmas and support organisations that have helped and continue to help those in need.”
Beyond Blue is a mental health and wellbeing support organisation that provides programs to address anxiety, depression and suicide. SFS aims to help families create a safe and nurturing environment for children to grow.
SFS Manger, Lisa Brock, said the HVO donation would help more families engage with their services and programs.
“Throughout 2020 SFS has seen an increase in anxiety in our young people and children, which has affected their schooling and self-esteem,” Lisa said.
Lisa noted that many clients had also experienced increased isolation and struggled with parenting and relationships throughout the year.
“Family violence incidents have also been consistently high due to increased stress in the home,” she said.
“This significant donation will support many of our programs and services, including practical needs in emergencies like small appliances, school needs, petrol vouchers and food staples.
“We are very grateful for this kind and generous donation from the HVO workforce.”
