As part of her course requirements, Kasey recently completed her off-campus placement at Meteor Downs, an 80,000-hectare cattle station in Central Queensland operated by Colinta Holdings, Glencore’s pastoral business.
The placement gave Kasey the chance to put her studies into practice and experience the day-to-day realities of working on a large cattle operation.
From fencing and mustering to working in the cattle yards, Kasey said no two days were the same.
“Every day was hands-on and there was always something new to learn,” Kasey said.
“We worked in the yards, cleaned and maintained troughs, helped with bores and even took part in the station’s wild dog control program. It gave me a much better understanding of what it takes to keep a property like Meteor Downs running.”
Kasey attended the placement with two other Tocal students and said the warm welcome from the Meteor Downs team made the experience even more memorable.
“From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed like family,” she said.
“It opened my eyes to how rewarding life in a remote area can be, but also how isolating it can sometimes feel,” she said.
“It reinforced just how important community, friendships and family are. I’m incredibly grateful to Glencore, Colinta Holdings and the team at Meteor Downs for such a valuable and unforgettable experience.”
