Glencore welcomes Madeleine King as Federal Minister for Resources and Northern Australia

Media statement
Sydney, Australia
2 June 2022

Glencore congratulates Madeleine King on her appointment as Minister for Resources and Northern Australia.

We look forward to continuing a constructive working relationship with Minister King and the Albanese Government and key portfolio ministers on a wide range of important policy matters related to the mining sector.

Glencore acknowledges the support of Minister King and the Albanese Government for the Australian mining sector.

It is an exciting time for the Australian mining sector. We make a major socio-economic contribution as an employer, an investor, a buyer of goods and services from other Australian businesses and a key supporter of local and regional communities.

Beyond this, our sector continues to play a vital role in supplying the world with the essential natural resources and critical minerals that continue to deliver energy today and will drive the transition to a low carbon future.

As one of Australia’s largest mining companies, Glencore directly employs 17,300 people across the country and last year contributed $14 billion to the national economy.

We are a responsible operator with a focus on protecting our people, respecting the environment, and being valued by the community.

Glencore recognises our role to contribute to the global effort to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and as a company we’ve committed to emission reductions (including Scope 3) across our business of 15% by 2026, 50% by 2035 and an ambition of net zero by 2050.
