x.days.agoIt’s Voice for Mining Round in the NRL this week. And, the links between mining and rugby league run deep in the Hunter. We know it well at Glencore with Newcastle Knights premiership winner Wayne Richards and inaugural NRLW player Phoebe Desmond working in our coal mines. We’ve also hosted players at our Liddell operation in previous years, from Josh King to Kurt Mann and Hymel Hunt. When the Knights men and women run out on Sunday to face the One NZ Warriors, they’ll be wearing the iconic hi-vis mining jersey in honour of Voice for Mining and the Glencore team will be cheering them on!

x.months.agoThis year marks the 55th anniversary of the sinking of the Hilton Shaft and 25 years of operation of the George Fisher Mine. The lead-zinc-silver ore bodies of Hilton and George Fisher Mine have a long and remarkable history. Following a turbulent 40 years of stop and start development, Hilton began production in 1989. By 1998, development of Hilton North began and was renamed the George Fisher Mine, after former Chairman of Mount Isa Mines − Sir George Fisher. The mine was officially opened in 2000 and now forms part of Glencore’s Mount Isa Mines, an iconic mining operation with a legacy of over 100 years. Today George Fisher Mine is one of the largest and most complex underground zinc, lead and silver operations in Australia with a mine life until at least 2042.
