Ernest Henry Mining
Ernest Henry Mining is a critical part of our integrated Queensland Metals business, extending from Mount Isa to Townsville.
Located 38 kilometres north-east of Cloncurry, Ernest Henry Mining includes a shaft underground mine and copper concentrator producing a copper-gold concentrate that is transported to Mount Isa Mines for smelting.
Evolution Mining to acquire Ernest Henry Mining from Glencore
Glencore and Evolution Mining Limited (Evolution) have entered into a binding agreement for the sale and purchase of Glencore’s 100% interest in Ernest Henry Mining Pty Ltd, the owner of the Ernest Henry Mining (EHM) copper-gold mine in Queensland, Australia.
From open pit to underground
Starting as an open pit mine in 1998, we transitioned to underground mining in 2011 in a $589 million life of mine extension project.
Our hard rock resource can be mined by various methods. Today we use an innovative, low cost and high efficiency method known as sub-level caving.
Crushed ore from underground is processed through our onsite concentrator, where minerals are separated from the remaining waste rock to produce copper concentrate containing small amounts of gold.
Glencore’s operations make a major socio-economic contribution to the Cloncurry Shire, where our operations are based.
We aim to build enduring relationships with the local community that result in positive and lasting social and economic benefits.
We acknowledge the Mitakoodi people, the Traditional Owners of the land on which we operate, respecting their culture, history and relationship to the land.
We have two community funding programs:
- Community Assistance Program (CAP): Community-based events and initiatives
- Futures Fund: Large, locally based infrastructure projects, identified in consultation with community, stakeholders and government.
