Glencore Queensland Metals is supporting our community

The Glencore Queensland Metals Community Assistance Program provides funding for local events, projects and initiatives across our North Queensland communities of Townsville, Cloncurry, Mount Isa and Camooweal to make them safer, happier, healthier and more sustainable.

We believe the communities that support our operations should benefit from our activities. Supporting grassroots organisations, community events and programs to improve the liveability of our communities are key goals of our Community Assistance Program.

Take a look at some of the recent initiatives we’ve funded.

Mount Isa Underground Hospital and Museum

Restoration project

Our funding will be directed towards the restoration of the timber support for the Underground Hospital and Museum. Maintenance is required to replace the timber support system to preserve the heritage listed site for locals, school groups and visitors to the region.

Secure Mine Solutions carried out the maintenance at the Underground Hospital and Museum which is a thriving tourist destination during the tourism season.

Cloncurry Touch Association

Round robin mixed open touch football competition

To celebrate 20 years of touch football in Cloncurry, the Cloncurry Touch Association will be hosting a round robin mixed open touch football competition in Cloncurry later this year.

Townsville Picnic Bay Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC)

Multipurpose equipment trailer

Glencore Queensland Metals funding will provide a custom-built trailer to transport equipment between the beach, the clubhouse and storage facilities. The Picnic Bay SLSC and Magnetic Island SLSC attend eight carnivals during the season.

Townsville Picnic Bay SLSC will soon be receiving a new multipurpose equipment trailer helping to keep our communities safe thanks to Glencore funding.

Estelle Cardiff is the oldest running kindergarten in Mount Isa, and was originally located opposite the old Mines Fire Station on South Road on Mineside more than 60 years ago.

Camooweal State School

Bus transport

Camooweal State School is the closest school to our Lady Loretta Mine operations and we’re proud to provide Glencore Queensland Metals funding to help the school to hire a bus to transport their children from Mount Isa to Camooweal for school camp.

While the amusement rides are fun, the Agricultural Shows provide an important hub for the community to come together.

Mount Isa Agricultural Show

Mount Isa Show

Queensland Metals continued its long-term support for the Mount Isa Show to bring the outback spectacular display of horsemanship, skill and live music from the Rooftop Express – the Night of the Horse to the 2021 Mount Isa Show.
