Our ambition is to become a leader in safety, and to create a workplace without fatalities, injuries or occupational diseases.
The safety of our workforce is the single most important aspect of managing our daily operations. The nature of our industry involves hazards and risks and while we cannot entirely eliminate them, our goal is to apply sound risk management principles, provide a fatality-free workplace and continue to reduce serious injuries.
We continually assess our workplaces so that we are best able to protect the health and wellbeing of our people, both employees and contractors.
Our SafeWork initiative is a global program focusing on changing attitudes towards safety to bring about sustainable long-term change.
The program revolves around 12 principal hazards identified at our operations, and implements life-saving behaviours and protocols developed to target these hazards. Group-wide implementation commenced during 2014.
SafeWork key components

||address the most common causes of fatalities and serious injuries within the industry. They will be implemented in order of priority.|
|2. Life-saving behaviours
||encourage workers to focus on hazards with the highest potential for serious injury or fatality and the critical safety behaviours that must be followed.|
|3. Supporting tools
||include universal risk awareness training, virtual reality training materials on each fatal hazard, and other training aids.|
|4. Empowering our people
||encouraging first-line supervisors to take responsibility for their work areas, manage technical safety aspects, and motivate safe behaviours.|
